Today the search begins for the city’s top male and female models and entry is open to anyone who thinks they’ve got what it takes to set the catwalk alight.

Up for grabs is a modelling contract with Converse Models and bags more prizes, details of which will be revealed as the competition progresses.

The competition is simple to enter and culminates in a fashion extravaganza held in Sandino’s night club on April 3.

Our judging panel will whittle the entries list down to 12 finalists who will compete for the crown on the night. There will be six female and six male finalists. The evening will also feature a live broadcast from Q102.

Derry News readers will also have a chance to vote for who they think is Derry’s next top model.

Editor of the Derry News, Eamonn Houston, said that the competition is exciting.

“We are only too happy to be involved in this,” he said.

“Derry has been crying out for a competition like this and in a city renowned for its good looking ladies and men, it is sure to be a success. Competitions like this really capture the public imagination. Also the prizes are going to be brilliant.”

Converse Models is the city’s recently launched modelling agency and is headed up by Donal Doherty.

Donal said: “It’s a great opportunity for people in the local area to get involved in modelling. They could go ahead to model across Ireland and beyond with Derry modelling agency Converse models.

“Thanks to the Derry News County Derry Post and the Q Network able to work with local businesses to provide a fantastic prize fund for the winners. And the finale of the competition will be a night not to be missed.”
