There have been claims that the proposed cuts in funding by the Department of Social Development (DSD) could lead to significant job losses in the city.
However, in a new twist to the funding controversy, five leading community workers have publicly backed the DSD’s decision to divert long term funding into a series of projects in the city.
A statement was issued by the community workers just hours after the chairperson of the Galliagh Community Development Group, Oliver Green, resigned in protest over the North West Development Office’s decision to withdraw funding for the Good Morning Galliagh programme.
The Guildhall rally in support of saving local services will take place at 3.30pm tomorrow.
Leaflets were yesterday distributed outside local churches appealing for people to support the protest.
