Snake on the loose
By Johnny Craig
A snake is on the loose in Derry.
The three foot long albino snake remains unaccounted for after it was first sighted in a Rosemount chemist on Friday afternoon.
Staff and customers of the Clear Pharmacy on Rosemount Avenue were left hisssterical when the snake was spotted by a customer in the household section of the store.
Unrattled, employee Sharon Box attempted to charm the reptile into a plastic bag with the aid of a feather duster.
But her brave attempts to catch it were in vain as it slipped back onto the main street and its whereabouts remain unknown.
Speaking to the Derry News, Sharon described the scene when the snake was first spotted at 3.20pm.
“There was a lot of panic when we first saw it. There were four of us working at the time, and three or four customers as well.
“Annette and Melinda who work here both hid in the back room behind the counter but our pharmacist Noella and me stayed on the shop floor and decided to try and remove it.” she explained.
“I tried to catch it with a plastic bag first and I did get my hand around it’s tail but it quickly slithered out again.
“Then I tried to lure it out with a feather duster but it just bit the top of it and feathers flew everywhere.”
