Two people yesterday escaped injury when shots were fired at a house in Derry.
A number of shots were fired shortly after midnight yesterday morning at a house in the Merriman Court area of Ballymagroarty.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that two people had been in the house at the time of shooting but there were no reports of any injuries.
No one was yesterday in the house, where a number of windows have been boarded up.
Police have appealed to anyone who may have information about the shooting to contact them.
Local SDLP councillor Mark H Durkan condemned those behind the shooting.
“This is despicable act and I condemn it without question.
“Unfortunately, there are people who see the use of firearms as an acceptable part of society. Thankfully, the large majority of people disagree.
“Firearms have no place in our society and should be taken away from those who think they have the right to use them on other members of the community.
“I’m glad no-one was injured during the shooting and I wish the victims a speedy recovery from their ordeal.
“I urge anybody with information regarding the incident to pass it to the police. We could easily be waking up to a double fatality this morning.”
