I’M NO THIEF – CLAIMS ARSON VICTIM
A former Republican prisoner has said he is under threat of execution from a local paramilitary group who have blamed him for a robbery at a local taxi firm.
And Paul Maxwell has said the group is using the false allegations to justify a sustained campaign of intimidation against his family, the latest incident in which saw an arson attack outside his home on Tuesday night.
Yesterday saw Mr. Maxwell and his family and friends stage a protest near William Street against the continuing intimidation.
The incident at Rathlin Drive saw a VW Passat car belonging to Mr. Maxwell’s wife and a Citroen van he uses for worked torched.
The van contained a number of presents which were destroyed in the blaze, as well as £400 which was in the car when it was set alight.
Speaking to the Derry News yesterday morning, Mr. Maxwell said he is no doubt that a local dissident paramilitary group behind the attacks –and appealed to the group to leave his family in peace.
