These shocking pictures show the injuries sustained by a 15-year-old boy after he was attacked by a gang of men on Chapel Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Eamon Deehan needed stitches to his eye and elbow, sustained extensive bruising and required an intravenous drip due to the extent of his injuries after a brutal sectarian attack, which left the teen severely traumatised.
Up to six men are believed to have been involved in the assault which occurred while the teen was walking with his cousin along Chapel Road at 1.30am of Sunday morning.
Speaking to the Derry News yesterday, Eamon’s mother, Christine said she was in no doubt that the motive for the attack was sectarian.
“They started shouting sectarian abuse at them and questioned them about where they were coming from,” she said.
“Eamon knew they were trying to find out if they were Catholics so he just kept his head down and walked on but they started shouting after him ‘You Fenian b*stards, you’re from Top of the Hill’.
“Then they just came after him and laid into him. They were kicking into him as he lay on the ground, you can see the boot marks on his back. He’s in a bad state.
“When I seen him when he came to the door I nearly collapsed.”
