A knife-wielding thief robbed a shop in Creggan on Friday night.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an armed robbery at the shop at Rathlin Gardens at 8.40pm on Friday.
It’s understood that two masked men, one of them armed with a knife, entered the premises and attempted to take the till.
They were unsuccessful but made off with a small sum of cash.
One member of staff and a customer were in the shop at the time but weren’t injured during the robbery which has been condemned by local councillor Kevin Campbell.
“Any robbery is an extremely traumatic event for the victims. Such attacks are completely reprehensible and those who would involve themselves in this type of activity can have no place in society.
“This robbery is an attack on the Creggan community as a whole. Those who would carry out such actions do so without any care for those they may hurt in the process, nor with any regard for the wider community,” added Colr Campbell.
The PSNI want anyone with information about the robbery to contact detectives in Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
Alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
