DERRY played host yesterday to another world record-breaking event.
Almost 400 young people gathered along the River Foyle walkway yesterday to dance their way into the Guinness Book of World Records.
A total of 392 dancers took part in the world’s longest ever Riverdance line.
The previous record was 312 which was set in New York several years ago.
Derry already holds the world record for the most Santas in the one place, following an event in the city in 2007.
Yesterday’s event was organised to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and to raise awareness of the life-saving work of the volunteer lifeboat crews in Ireland.
Dancers from all over Ireland to take part in the event which attracted hundreds of people to the riverside walkway.
RNLI Area Fundraising Manager Tony Hiney, who came up with the idea, said he was delighted with how the day had gone.
“It was brilliant day all round. It was great to get the record and while we don’t know the exact figure yet, we have also raised a lot of money for the RNLI,” he said.
“All the young dancers who took part were fantastic and I would also like to thank all the people who supported us and made the event possible.
“Everyone in Derry can now feel proud to have yet another world record,” he added.
