THE LOCAL District Policing Partnership (DPP) has launched a new campaign where they have called on the community to come forward with information about drug dealers.

The scheme will see a number of leaflet drops targeting what the DPP described as ‘hotspot’ areas for drug dealing and drug taking, which they hope will prompt a fresh flow of information regarding those involved in the drug trade.
The information leaflet encourages people in the community to ‘Break the Silence and Stop the Drug Dealing in Derry/Londonderry’ and follows on from a regional Crimestoppers Anti-Drug Dealing Campaign several months ago.
Commenting, the chair of the DPP, Waterside DUP councillor Joe Miller, said the public’s help was vital in tackling the scourge of drugs head on.
“Local public consultations carried out recently by the DPP show that the availability of drugs in our neighbourhoods is a major concern for our residents,” he said.
“As a DPP we realise that the police can only tackle this issue with the help of the public and we would encourage anyone with information about drug dealing to contact the police or Crime stoppers.”
The campaign has been put together in partnership with Crimestoppers, the District Policing Partnership and Community Safety Partnership.

Speaking about the campaign, Alderman Drew Thompson, chair of the CSP, added: “The Crimestoppers Charity enables people within the community to help rid it of criminal activity such as drug dealing.
“It is completely anonymous and has proven to be a very effective organization in the detection of drug dealers.
“We have a responsibility to protect our young people and children from the dangers of drugs and this is a safe and confidential way for anyone with information, no matter how small, to pass it on and help make a positive difference to the lives of our young people.”
