POLICE are investigating the motive behind a pipe bomb attack in Derry last week.
Thursday night’s attack saw a pipe bomb thrown through the back window of a Volkswagen Passat car shortly before midnight in the Ard Grange area of the city.
A number of nearby homes were evacuated as Army Technical Officers moved in and carried out a controlled explosion.
Condemning the incident, Northland SDLP councillor Mark H. Durkan said that those responsible for the attack were endangering the entire community.
“Unfortunately these types of attacks have become all too frequent in recent weeks,” he said.
“The people behind this might think that they’re targeting one person, but the people that are suffering most are those forced out of their beds in the middle of the night.
“I would urge anyone with information regarding this attack to pass it on to the police.”
Detectives are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555
