Fureys for Derry
A Derry community festival has secured world-famous act The Fureys as the headline act for the event.

The legendary Irish band have agreed to close the Earhart Festival on August 17 at Ballyarnett Country Park.
The Fureys have enjoyed huge success throughout their 30 years together.
Among their best known songs are ‘When You Were Sweet Sixteen’ and ‘Gallipoli’.
Oliver Green, organizer of the Earhart Festival, said he was delighted have signed the band.
They will be supported by another well-known band, the Gravediggers Grin.
“We are delighted to have succeeded in bringing these world-class musicians to Derry, and to give people an opportunity to hear them play in a family-friendly environment, for a minimal charge,” said Mr Green.
“Sunday’s Festival programme is very music-oriented; there’ll be a display of marching bands earlier in the afternoon, as well. The Fureys are an ideal choice to conclude what is set to be a wonderful afternoon of family-friendly entertainment, and round off the second international Earhart Festival in style.”

Mr Green said there would strive to keep the concerts affordable for local people.
“We are aware that the economic recession has reduced local people’s spending power and, with this in mind, we are offering a special value family ticket for two adults and two children to get admission to the grounds on both days of the Festival, for a total of £10.
“After that, all the youngesters’ favourite sideshows, including bouncy castles, puppets, and merry go rounds, face painting and bucking bronco, will be free of charge and limited only by time and demand.”
